Table of Contents

India’s Volkai and China’s DeepSeek AI are shaping the future of generative AI. See how these AI giants compare and what they mean for global AI.

Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly, with new contenders emerging from all parts of the world. While the US has been the dominant player in the world of AI, countries like China and India are not far behind.

China’s DeepSeek AI and India’s Volkai are two major players in Asia that are challenging Meta’s Llama, Google’s Gemini, and OpenAI’s Chat GPT models.

The DeepSeek AI has already disrupted the AI universe by becoming the most downloaded free app in the US since its launch last week.

Let’s take a look at China’s DeepSeek AI and India’s Volkai models to understand how they stand apart from the current players in the market.

    What is DeepSeek AI?

DeepSeek is a Chinese artificial intelligence company founded in May 2023 by Lian Wenfeng in Hangzhou. DeepSeek started as a university startup and became a global sensation within a week of its launch.

Its goal is to create a groundbreaking human-level artificial general intelligence that no other AI company has achieved yet.

    DeepSeek vs ChatGPT

DeepSeek has already created waves in the technology industry with its low-cost approach and surpassing ChatGPT in terms of downloads in the US. It has also overtaken ChatGPT in several other regions—the UK, Australia, Canada, China, and Singapore.

The company’s founder, Lian Wenfeng, spoke about the company’s vision in an interview. He stated,

“In this wave, our starting point is not to take advantage of the opportunity to make a quick profit, but rather to reach the technical frontier and drive the development of the entire ecosystem.”

DeepSeek’s R1 model is already being rivalled against OpenAI’s 01 model, released last December. The company has claimed that it took them less than two months and $6 million to create the model.

Who is the owner of DeepSeek AI?

DeepSeek was founded by Lian Wenfeng in 2023. He graduated from Zhejiang University, China, with a degree in electronic information engineering and computer science. Wenfeng also has a background in finance.

Not much is known about Lian Wenfeng apart from the fact that he is the CEO of a hedge fund called High-Flyer, which uses AI for quantitative trading. In 2019, Wenfeng's hedge fund company became the quant hedge fund in China to raise over $13 million.

    Is DeepSeek available in India?

DeepSeek AI is available all over the world on Google Play Store and App Store. However, its availability in India is currently restricted to mainland China due to security concerns.

DeepSeek has restricted new sign-ups due to "large-scale malicious attacks," limiting users outside mainland China from accessing the AI chatbot.

What is the use of DeepSeek AI?

The popular Chinese AI chatbot, DeepSeek, aims to achieve artificial general intelligence to standout from its global peers. It is a cost-effective AI platform compared to other major AI platforms like Gemini, ChatGPT, Llama, etc.

    What is India’s Volkai?

Volkai is an Indian artificial intelligence company launched in 2025 by Kairosoft AI Solutions Limited. It is touted as one of the first Indian AI models to offer integrated text and image generation.

The company’s founder, Santosh Kumar Kushawaha, talked about Volkai’s roadmap for the future.

"Generative AI is just the beginning. The next wave of AI innovation will involve systems that not only create but also analyse, predict, and collaborate seamlessly with human intelligence."

He also highlighted the areas where the homegrown AI model will be making significant impacts in the near future.

    • Predictive analytics to anticipate market trends, consumer behaviour, and functional challenges to help businesses.
    • AI-powered collaborations blend human expertise with AI understanding, further enhancing business solutions.

Volkai is aiming to stand out among its global AI competitors with its focus on affordability and cultural relevance. The company is set to make its AI model accessible to all with its cost-effectiveness.

    Can Volkai Become a Game-Changer?

Volkai is setting itself apart from the global competition with its culturally sensitive approach. The AI model has a Vision Creator feature, which allows users to develop cultural-specific prompts like “Diwali-themed posters” or “modern kurta designs for men.”

Foreign AI models often overlook Indian nuances in their results, but Volkai is bridging this gap with inclusivity and making it more relevant for the Indian audience.

Furthermore, it offers both text and image generation in one model. This eliminates the need for users to hop on and off various tools for different needs, helping small businesses save money

    The Bottom Line

Whether DeepSeek and Volkai achieve success in the future is a question that will be answered in the coming months. However, it is exciting to see Asia on the map of the global AI market.
