It is celebrated to commemorate the return of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshman from Ayodhya after defeating the mighty Ravana.

The festival is celebrated by lighting diyas, and candles, and decorating homes with fairy lights.

People light up their houses with bright lights and decorations to remove the darkness caused by ‘Amavasya’ or the new moon.

However, there’s a lot of confusion regarding the Diwali date in 2024. Do not worry, we come bearing good news with all the necessary details.

Diwali Dates 2024 Date & Timings

This year, Diwali falls on October 31st, 2024. Traditionally, Diwali is celebrated by conducting Lakshmi Puja during the Amavaysa tithi (new moon) which will start at 03:52 PM on October 31 and end at 06:16 PM on November 1.

Due to the Amavasya tithi spanning across two dates, many Indians are confused about the real date of the festival of lights.

However, the Amavasya tithi will continue throughout the night from October 31, 2024, and end before midnight on November 1, 2024. Hence, Diwali will be celebrated on the last day of October.
