    Vasant Panchami, also called Basant Panchami, is a Hindu festival celebrated to mark the onset of spring in India. The term “vasant” means spring in Hindi, and “panchami” signifies the fifth day of spring.

    Basant Panchami: History & Significance

    Basant Panchami is believed to be the birth anniversary of Goddess Saraswati and is also known as Saraswati Jayanti. 

    As per Hindu tradition, Goddess Saraswati is supposed to be worshipped during the Purvahna time, which is before midday. 

    In north India, people offer marigolds and mustard flowers to Maa Saraswati due to its abundance during this season. 

    Vasant Panchami is considered a significant day to begin one’s educational journey. Many schools and colleges in Punjab, UP, and other north Indian states hold prayers to worship Goddess Saraswati and seek her blessings for a fruitful academic life. 

    Most schools and colleges in Punjab and Haryana celebrate the occasion with folk dance performances. Girls dress up in vibrant traditional outfits and perform Giddha, a Punjabi folk dance.

    This year, Vasant Panchami will be celebrated on February 2, 2025. The best time to perform Saraswati Puja is from 07:09 AM to 12:35 PM. The most auspicious time to perform this ritual is called the Madhyahna moment, which will fall at 12:25 PM.
